Nine-year-old Eva from Maastricht is the winner of the ‘new neighbor’ competition of the weekly magazine Donald Duck. In the context of the ninety-year anniversary of the weekly magazine, the editors called on readers to invent and design a ‘new neighbor’ for Donald Duck and Buurman Bolderbast. Eva’s entry is Eva Hamerslag, a carpenter and her son Lex, who loves programming. Duck Eva was chosen as the favorite by the public, editor-in-chief Ferdi Felderhof announced on Wednesday during the unveiling in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The editors of Donald Duck received a total of more than 7,400 entries from young and old. An expert jury selected the five best entries, which were then developed by a Disney artist. The public could vote for their favorite. More than 16 thousand votes were cast, with Eva emerging as the winner. “We are overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of our readers and the large number of entries and votes cast,” said Ferdi Felderhof, editor-in-chief of Donald Duck Weekblad. ‘Eva’s entry is extremely popular among our fans and offers us plenty of starting points for countless new storylines in Duckstad.’ Eva herself was delighted. ‘I didn’t expect it, but secretly I did. It’s great that Eva also has a cat, because a cat is my favorite animal.’
