“When a family visits Washington DC and is short on time, we hope they can visit the White House, although most will not make it,” as stated to KCRA Stewart McLaurin, president of the association. “That’s why we offer this experience across the street from the White House, at 1700 Pennsylvania Avenue, so they can learn about the presidency and the White House”.
The goal is to provide a more modern and personalized way to experience the executive mansion. It is designed to attract not only the millions of tourists and school groups who visit the capital annually, but also local residents. interested in history and who want to share it with their loved ones.
In a city full of renowned museums and galleries, the Casa del Pueblo is presented as one of the most advanced technological experiences yetoffering an innovative approach to museum design. The most surprising thing is that this initiative comes from the White House Historical Association, an organization traditionally discreet and best known for her Christmas publications and decorations.
The project, financed with 60 million dollars, seeks to raise an additional 50 million for its continuity. Tickets, with an assigned time to visit La Casa del Pueblo, are free.
The White House Historical Association, which is nonpartisan, was created under the direction of Jackie Kennedywho was alarmed by the state of the executive mansion upon moving in. Until 1961, the White House was quite dilapidated. It served as both a residence and an office.and each president and first lady decorated it to their liking, which meant that furniture and works of art considered out of fashion were often sold.
Kennedy set out to preserve and protect the White House as a “living museum”so the Historical Association was founded as a nonprofit organization to make its vision a reality. In 1962, the first edition of “The White House: A Historical Guide” was published. Over the past six decades, this organization raised $100 million to renovate public roomspreserve the art collection and acquire more than 600 historical pieces for the permanent collection.
