Maduro in the final stretch announces a “campaign closing offensive”

Nicolás Maduro announced during a proselytizing event in the state of Falcón, a “campaign closing offensive” in the final stretch towards the presidential elections on July 28, in which he will seek a third six-year term in power.

“Today, Friday, July 19, the closing offensive of the campaign begins towards the victory of July 28,” said the president in the activity broadcast by the state channel VTV.

Maduro said that the 28th will be “a great and blessed day,” when – he predicted – the National Electoral Council (CNE) will announce his “triumph.”

«Soon we will see each other with victory in hand“He promised his followers in that coastal region, where he reiterated that, in the elections, “the future of the next 50 years” of the country will be decided, without explaining the reasons or why for that period of time.

In this sense, he stressed the importance of “the decision of July 28”, the day on which “peace or war depends” and whether the nation will be “an independent republic” or will become “a gringo colony.”

In addition, he once again accused the main opposition coalition, the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) – which supports the candidacy of former ambassador Edmundo González Urrutia – of preparing alleged “plans to shout fraud” and trying to “taint the electoral process”, which that this anti-Chavista sector has denied.

The campaign, which began on July 4, entered its last stage this Friday, which ends on the 25th, in accordance with what was established by the electoral body.
