The company explained that work has begun on installing the internal containment shell that ensures the nuclear and environmental safety of the station.
The containment shell consists of six layers assembled together from 12 pieces. These layers are manufactured directly at the production base of the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant by specialists from Rosatom. The weight of each piece ranges from 60 to 80 tons. It is a complex technological process and lasts about 15 minutes. The installation is carried out in several stages using a heavy crane with a lifting capacity of 1,350 tons.
The Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, announced that the Dabaa nuclear reactor core trap for the third nuclear unit will be installed during the month of October.
The announcement came during the visit of the Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Chairman of the Egyptian Nuclear Power Plants Authority, Amjad El-Wakil, to the Leningrad Nuclear Plant.
President Vladimir Putin and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah El-Sisi participated in the event of pouring concrete for the fourth reactor at the Dabaa nuclear station at the beginning of this year, where they talked about the importance of this event for relations between the two countries.
On November 19, 2015, Egypt and Russia signed a cooperation agreement to establish an atomic energy station at an investment cost of $25 billion, which Russia provided a soft government loan to Cairo.
The Dabaa station will include four “3+” generation reactors operating with pressurized water, with a total capacity of 4,800 megawatts (1,200 megawatts each), and the first reactor is scheduled to be launched in 2028.
