PTI protest in Rawalpindi: Section 144 imposed, Rangers deployed

“If anyone tries to interfere in law and order today, if anyone tries to take the law into their hands, if they try to block roads, intersections, then the law will deal with them with iron hands.”

In the city of Rawalpindi, where Section 144 is in force, according to PTI, ‘the venue of the meeting has been locked.’

Various highways of Rawalpindi city have been blocked by placing containers at different places, while teams of police personnel can also be seen deployed at various places.

According to a notification issued by the Home Department of the Government of Punjab, Section 144 has been imposed in Rawalpindi Division for two days and in such a manner ‘all kinds of political gatherings, sit-ins, meetings, demonstrations, protests and related All activities have been banned. It will apply today and tomorrow.’

Section 144 has been imposed in all the districts of Rawalpindi division, including Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal, while six companies of Rangers have been deployed in Rawalpindi and Attock on the recommendation of the district administration.

A request was made through a letter to the federal government for the deployment of Rangers.

Metro bus service in Rawalpindi city has also been partially suspended today in view of possible unrest.

According to Metrobus officials, the Metrobus service from Rawalpindi Saddar station to IJP station will remain completely closed. However, metro buses running in Islamabad will continue to meet the needs of passengers.

According to the administration, the road entering Murree Road from Islamabad has been blocked in front of Faiz Salam while containers have been placed on both sides of Rawalpindi Murree Road Faizabad.

Roads have been blocked by placing containers at many places including Faizabad Murree Road, Sixth Road, Golra Mor, Peer Wadhai, Peshawar Road, Adiala Road and Mureed Chowk in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Internet service has also been partially suspended in Rawalpindi.

“We will not hold a rally in Rawalpindi on September 28. We are withdrawing the petition from Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench. We know they did not allow the rally. The place will also be given outside the city. Instead of a rally, we will protest in Rawalpindi on Saturday.

The PTI then withdrew the petition from the Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court for the rally in the city, which was filed on September 25.

The Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court was to hear the petition filed for the PTI rally today.
