Indian police said on Friday that teachers sacrificed a young boy. Teachers believe that child sacrifice will please the gods and will be good for the school.
The father of the sacrificed boy is a software engineer in a private firm in the Indian capital, New Delhi. The boy was killed in a private school in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh state.
Police say five people, including the school director and three teachers, have been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of the second-grade student.
School director Dinesh Bhagiel and his father Jashodhan Singh are accused of planning to take the boy’s life in a specific ritual with the help of three teachers.
According to the police, Jashodhan Singh believes in black magic and human sacrifice. He completed the ritual of sacrifice to improve the financial condition of the struggling school.
Senior police officer Nipan Aggarwal told the Times of India newspaper that the boy was sacrificed as a ritual for the school’s alleged success and progress. “We are investigating whether anyone else is involved in the murder.”
Agarwal said that the director of the school and his father had earlier tried to sacrifice another boy in the same way but their plan had failed.
The police officer did not explain how and why the previous attempt was unsuccessful or what happened to the child victim.
Police said the two men tried again on September 22 and abducted the child while he was sleeping and took him to a well behind the school to perform the ritual.

When the boy woke up and tried to escape, the accused allegedly panicked and strangled him.
The Times of India reported that the school staff found the boy dead in his hostel bed the next morning, but instead of reporting the incident to the police, Bagheel put the child’s body in his car and drove around the city.
The boy’s family said their child was ‘not well’. Meanwhile, the family members reached the school and when the child was not found, they sensed danger.
Referring to a nearby town, the student’s father said, “I got a call from the school saying, ‘Your child’s condition is very bad.’ Please arrive immediately. When I was on the way, they called again and said, ‘The child’s condition has worsened and we are taking him to Sadabad.’
“We followed them towards Agra but they did not stop the car. When we turned back, they found us in Sadabad where we found the body of our child in their car.’
Although human sacrifice is rarely performed, it is still practiced in India. It is given to appease the gods and fulfill wishes.
Between 2014 and 2021, according to the National Crime Records Bureau India 103 cases of human sacrifice were reported.
In 2022, three men were arrested for allegedly killing two women in a suspected case of human sacrifice in the southern state of Kerala.
