The PC port of God of War Ragnarok is certainly good, but it offers little scope for scaling visual settings beyond the PlayStation 5 version and sometimes looks worse than it does.
Digital Foundry provided a detailed review of the port, highlighting that the new version of the game is a great way to play the game, thanks to virtually no shader compilation issues, thanks to the transition to DirectX 12 compared to the previous version, excellent support for ultra-wide and monitor aspect ratios, NVIDIA DLSS, AMD scalers FSR and Intel XeSS, as well as frame generation where applicable, and much more.
Unfortunately, aside from achieving higher resolutions with smoother performance, God of War Ragnarok fails to look much better than the console version, as the port doesn’t offer many options for scaling beyond its limits. In some cases, the PC port looks even worse than the PS5 version in quality mode, due to the PC version missing the cube map tracing system and some effects such as moving fog in a certain scene. Transitions between portals also aren’t as smooth as they are on consoles, which is definitely odd since they even look better on PlayStation 4.
The PC port of God of War Ragnarok also has some performance issues on Ryzen 3000 series processors and some issues with tessellation settings, among other things, which can definitely be fixed with future patches.
God of War Ragnarok available on PC, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
