Where in the United States and when?

Several states in the United States continue to offer economic aid in the form of stimulus checks or tax refunds for their residents.

Even though federal stimulus payments have ceased, many state governments have decided to move forward with their own financial relief programs to counter the effects of inflation and the cost of living. In October 2024, some states will continue to distribute these benefits.

With inflation still affecting thousands of families, these programs seek to provide additional relief, whether through guaranteed basic income or tax refunds, to help stabilize the financial situation of their citizens.

Which states will distribute payments in October?

Alaska

The state of Alaska will continue its tradition of sharing the profits generated by the exploitation of oil and minerals. Through the Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD), residents will receive a portion of these profits. The payment scheduled for this year is $1,702 per person. Deposits will begin on October 3, 2024.

California

California will offer tax refunds to those who earn less than $75,000 annually. This state remains focused on helping people with the lowest incomes, who may receive up to $350. Payments will begin to be distributed in October and will continue until the majority of beneficiaries have received the money.

South Carolina

South Carolina residents will receive a tax refund that could be up to $800. This program will benefit those who have filed their tax returns correctly and meet the established requirements. Distributions will begin in October and run through December 2024.

Idaho

In Idaho, tax refunds began processing in September, but many residents will continue to receive payments throughout the month of October. Single taxpayers will receive $300, while couples can get up to $600.

Rhode Island

This state has implemented a one-time child reimbursement, benefiting families who have minor dependents. Each eligible child will provide a refund of $250, with a maximum of $750 per family.

Virginia

Virginia also joins the states that will offer financial relief in October. Individual filers will receive $250, while couples filing jointly will get $500. The distribution of these payments will be made towards the end of October.

What to do if you have not received your payment?

If you have not yet received your stimulus check and believe you are eligible, review your state’s specific requirements and make sure you have correctly filed your tax return or application. You can also check your state’s revenue portal to check the status of your payment.

These state stimulus programs provide important relief for many families who continue to deal with the economic effects of inflation, and ensure additional support over the coming months.
