Al-Sudani assures Mikati that Iraq stands by Lebanon in its ordeal

The Iraqi Prime Minister held a meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, on the sidelines of his sovereignty’s participation in the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly at its 79th session held in New York.

At the beginning of the meeting, he offered his condolences to the Lebanese government and people, stressing that the government support to stand with Lebanon expresses the position of all Iraqis, first and foremost the religious authority and the rest of their components and social spectrum.

Al-Sudani affirmed Iraq’s readiness to support Lebanon in various directions to overcome this crisis, through the political track or the humanitarian aspect, and that Iraq called for an Arab and Islamic summit to resolve this crisis and take strong positions regarding the aggression, with the failure of the international system to defend human rights in Lebanon and Palestine and protect the lives of Their people, indicating that the Iraqi government will not delay in providing all the capabilities required to support the brothers in Lebanon.

For his part, Mr. Mikati expressed his appreciation for Iraq’s supportive steps, and appreciated the support that it has continued to provide over the past years, especially during this crisis in which Iraq rushed to be the first country to send urgent aid to alleviate the suffering of the Lebanese people, praising Iraq’s efforts in calling for an Arab and Islamic summit. In order to stop the brutal aggression against Lebanon and its people, and to prevent the spread of conflict in the region.
