Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh in action, surprise visit to Civil Hospital Khairpur, transfer of MS due to poor arrangements

Custodian Chief Minister of Sindh Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqir has ordered a full inquiry into the affairs of the hospital while directing the suspension of the Finance Director and the transfer of the Medical Superintendent (MS) over the poor management of Civil Hospital Khairpur.

According to the statement issued by the Sindh Chief Minister’s Office, the caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Justice (R) Maqbool Baqir along with Principal Secretary Hasan Naqvi and Secretary Health Department Dr. Mansoor Rizvi inspected the situation of various wards, laboratory and radiology of Civil Hospital Khairpur. made a surprise visit and interacted with the patients there.

According to the report, on the occasion of the caretaker chief minister’s visit, female and male patients were lying on beds without sheets in the emergency ward, there was no separate arrangement for male and female patients.

At the time of the caretaker CM’s visit, the beds were lying around and there was no oxygen and even the nebulizers were defunct and lying on the floor covered with dust.

On the question of Justice (Rtd) Maqbool Baqir, the MS of the hospital said that there is no female doctor in the emergency and there is only one doctor who has also been called on a phone call.

The caretaker chief minister expressed his indignation at MS’s explanation and asked them to behave like doctors and hospital administrators.

The statement said that the caretaker chief minister asked the MS that how can you allow such filth, mismanagement, unprofessional behavior in a hospital where more than 3 thousand patients come on a daily basis.

He said that the hospital has 550 beds but it is being run like a dispensary.

The caretaker chief minister also inspected the hospital laboratory where there were good equipments, some of them were damaged but no effort was made to repair them.

Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqir also visited the pharmacy where there was no official record of medicines given to the patients.

The caretaker chief minister has issued instructions to the secretary health department to seal the private pharmacy store in the hospital premises.

He also inspected the hospital kitchen where he was told that food was prepared for 300 patients but in fact food was not being prepared there for a long time.

The report stated that the medical superintendent and director of finance failed to disclose the expenses of the hospital during the last few months and did not have any records of doctors on duty and on leave.

However, the Chief Minister suspended the Finance Director and ordered the transfer of the MS Hospital.

Apart from this, the Chief Minister also visited Gambit Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) and reviewed its requirements, inventory, support system and overall expenditure of the hospital.

The Chief Minister directed the Director Gambit Institute of Medical Sciences to reconcile all accounts with the Finance Department and the Health Department so that its deficit of Rs 2 billion can be controlled.
