Enrique Márquez asks the TSJ to declare null and void the ruling validating Maduro’s victory

Caracas, Sep 25 (EFE).- Former opposition presidential candidate Enrique Márquez asked this Wednesday the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) of Venezuela to declare void the ruling that validates the controversial re-election of Nicolás Maduro proclaimed by the National Council Electoral (CNE) in the elections of July 28.

«In this case (…) we come to the Constitutional Chamber to request the annulment of sentence number 31, issued by the Electoral Chamber, and that from there Venezuelans can find themselves again on a rescue route to democracy, from the rescue to the value of the vote,” explained Márquez outside the TSJ, in Caracas, where he delivered his request.

The opponent pointed out that the document delivered – supported by 28 people from different political sectors – was received by the Supreme Court, controlled by magistrates related to Chavismo, and explained that in the next three days the file number must be assigned and, later, in Within a period of five days, the magistrate in the case must be appointed.

«We have shown the vices of unconstitutionality, above all, the violation of the popular sovereignty included in the vote, of due process, this was a crazy process in the Electoral Chamber and we want the Constitutional Chamber to certify that, indeed, these vices “they existed,” he added.

The former candidate maintained that the country “needs a response” for which he considers that the Constitutional Chamber of the TSJ is the “last institutional reserve” it has to resolve the controversy surrounding the electoral results.

“So we are here, satisfied with the legal work, and now we are going to the political work, which is that we intend for this document to be the flag of a civic movement, in peace, for the republic, for the Constitution,” he added.

On August 22, the Electoral Chamber of the TSJ, chaired by Chavista Caryslia Rodríguez, validated the official results of the July 28 elections, which gave victory to Maduro, questioned inside and outside the country.

Meanwhile, the majority opposition – grouped in the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) – maintains that its standard-bearer, Edmundo González Urrutia, is the winner of the elections based on “83.5% of the electoral records”, collected by witnesses and members table on election day, to reinforce their claim.

To date, the CNE has not published the disaggregated results – as established by its schedule – that confirm Maduro’s victory, despite numerous requests from the opposition and a large part of the international community.
