Resident parking – City of Cologne

In June 2024, the Cologne City Council decided on a fee schedule for issuing resident parking permits, which will take effect on October 1, 2024. The previous annual fee of 30 euros, which only included administration costs, will increase to 100 euros from October 1st. This fee schedule applies temporarily for five months until February 28, 2025.

Fees from March 1, 2025

From March 1, 2025, the regulation will be replaced by a new and partially structurally changed fee schedule that was decided by the Council in December 2023 and made public on January 11, 2024. From this point onwards, this provides for the first time that the fee amount will be staggered according to vehicle length.

The annual fee is then depending on the length of the vehicle – there are three different vehicle length classes – 100, 110 or 120 euros. For vehicles with a length of up to 4,109 millimeters, 100 euros must be paid annually; for vehicles with a length of over 4,709 millimeters, the annual fee is 120 euros. For all vehicles that are between these length dimensions, you have to pay 110 euros per year.

Both the fee schedule in force from October 1, 2024 and the fee schedule from March 1, 2025 also stipulate that owners of vehicles with a length of more than 5,600 millimeters are generally no longer entitled to a resident ID card from October 1, 2024. Since the necessary technical and organizational adjustment to differentiate fees based on vehicle length requires some time in advance and can only be introduced on March 1, 2025, the Council decided on this transitional regulation at its meeting on June 27, 2024.

Current holders of resident parking permits whose permits are up for renewal on October 1, 2024 were – as usual in the past – informed by the city administration about the upcoming extension and also about the new fee level.
