Scheduled between June and July 2025, could the Club World Cup be postponed for lack of sponsors and broadcasters? FIFA has its back against the wall in any case according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. To the point that a postponement is even considered.

Will the Club World Cup take place from June 15 to July 13, 2025 with 32 teams as planned in the United States? The question deserves to be asked. Because for the moment, the unknowns outnumber the certainties.

Apart from the date, everything else is missing: sponsors, broadcasters and stadiums. Suffice to say that this first edition is far from appearing obvious. According to La Gazzetta dello Sportthe World Cup could even be simply canceled, even if FIFA does everything not to make it happen.

At the start of the week, FIFA hoped to close the broadcaster. But it didn’t happen. If the world body hoped to win the jackpot, we are talking about four billion, “pno one has come forward on this issue”, explains the Italian daily. With a draw due to take place in December, time is running out.

Another concern is sponsorship. If the country where the competition takes place is known, the stadiums are not. It is therefore difficult to put your hand in your pocket for sponsors if you do not know what the return on investment could be.

One of the solutions that FIFA is exploring is called Saudi Arabia. While the country should organize the World Cup, countries this time, in 2034, FIFA hopes to convince the country to put its hand in the wallet. It remains to be seen what the answer will be.

Beyond organizational concerns, the Club World Cup must also face a revolution on the part of clubs and players. The latter find that there are too many meetings per year. Several complaints have also been filed. A first complaint was filed before the Brussels High Court. Another is being prepared by the European leagues (Bundesliga, Liga, Serie A and Premier League, but not the LFP) and certain players’ unions. It must be launched on October 14 before the European Commission“, explained to AFP David Terrierthe president of Fifpro Europe and vice-president of the UNFP, the French players’ union.

With all of these elements, FIFA has its work cut out for it.
