A number of diplomats from various countries, including an Indonesian diplomat, were affected by a bomb explosion that targeted a convoy of foreign diplomats in Pakistan on Sunday (22/9).
Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) Roy Soemirat said that his party had coordinated closely with the Indonesian Embassy in Islamabad and ensured that the group of diplomats was safe and secure, including the Indonesian representative.
“In the accompaniment of the diplomatic corps, the Chargé d’Affaires Ad Interim (KUAI) of the Indonesian Embassy in Islamabad also participated. The KUAI of the Indonesian Embassy in Islamabad and the entire diplomatic corps entourage are safe and have returned to Islamabad safely,” said Roy in his statement Monday (23/9).
He explained that an armed attack on a group of diplomats who were going to take part in the activities of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) occurred on September 22 2023 in Swat Valley, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, Pakistan.
“The attack targeted the diplomatic corps convoy that was going to join the ICCI and allegedly used materials in the form of bombs or improvised explosive devices,” he said.
According to him, the attack occurred on the highway to Malam Jabba or 300 kilometers from Islamabad, Pakistan. Until now, no party has claimed responsibility.

“The attack left 1 policeman dead and 3 other policemen injured,” he added. The Indonesian government, through the Indonesian Embassy in Islamabad, will continue to coordinate with Pakistani government officials to ensure the security and safety of all Indonesian citizens in Pakistan.
“According to information from the Indonesian Embassy in Islamabad, currently there are many inaccurate images related to this incident circulating in various international media,” he said. Therefore, continued Roy, the public is also advised to continue to monitor the news in a measured and responsible manner.
The number of Indonesian citizens recorded as residing in Pakistan is around 1,200 people. The majority are students and Indonesian citizens who are married to Pakistani citizens.
It is known that footage broadcast by Geo News shows a damaged security vehicle in the middle of Mallam Jabba Road, while security forces closed access to the area. (Z-2)
