PON Aceh Officially Closed, Knitting Unity and Cultural Values

A fireworks display enlivens the closing of PON XXI Aceh-North Sumatra 2024(Antara)

National Sports Week (PON) XXI Aceh-North Sumatra officially closed on Friday evening (20/9/2024) at the North Sumatra Main Stadium, Deli Serdang. This moment marks the end of a sporting event which not only showcased achievements, but also fostered unity and prioritized Acehnese cultural values.

Participants from various regions came with a spirit of respect for local customs. One of the trainers, Yesni Luek from East Nusa Tenggara, expressed how inspiring the Peumulia Jamee tradition is, which emphasizes respect for guests.

“The slogan of honoring guests is not just a slogan. We hope that this experience can be applied in our area,” he said.

Not only sports, Aceh coffee also steals attention. Weightlifting athlete from Bali, Ni Kadek Ernawati, admitted that she was impressed by the unique taste of coffee.

“Aceh coffee is very impressive. I have tried coffee from many regions, but this one is different,” he said.

Kempo East Kalimantan Manager, Panti Suhartono, praised the accommodating Liaison Officer (LO) service, while Kempo athlete Mirwan Nafil expressed his admiration for the stunning venue.

“It’s really cool! I even sent photos to my parents,” he said.

During the event, many participants also appreciated the safety and friendliness of the Acehnese people. Riska Mentari, one of the LOs, apologized for any shortcomings that may have occurred, while also expressing gratitude to all the guests who participated.

Memories of the XXI Aceh-North Sumatra PON will live on, not only as a sporting event, but also as a symbol of cultural unity and harmony that existed during the event. (Z-8)
