Gabon-China cooperation: Arrival in Libreville of the hospital ship L’Arche de la Paix

Announced since September 19, it was this Thursday, September 26, 2024 that The Peace Ark docked at the port of Owendo. Starting tomorrow, the Chinese hospital ship will offer free services to the local population with the latest generation medical equipment.

Seven years after its last visit to Gabon, the Peace Ark, the Chinese hospital ship is once again on the Gabonese coast. The Minister of the Interior, Hermann Immongault, welcomed the ship this Thursday, September 26, 2024 at the port of Owendo where his medical team on board will consult, advise and intervene on patients suffering from various pathologies. This operation is part of the naval cooperation between China and Gabon.

“Compared to 7 years ago, this time we brought more advanced medical equipment. And we also brought more professional medical staff. Just like 7 years ago, today we are here for peace, for the health of the general Gabonese public and above all for the strengthening of friendship between our two armies and our two countries.said Vice Admiral Hongbo Ying, commander-in-chief of the mission.

During two weeks in Libreville, the services that will be offered to patients should be the same as those offered in the countries where the Chinese People’s Liberation Army hospital ship previously stopped: cardiology, pulmonology, gastroenterology , general surgery, orthopedics, ENT, ophthalmology, stomatology, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, dermatology, traditional Chinese medicine and physiotherapy, nephrology, neurology, endocrinology, urology, neurosurgery.

This multidisciplinary medical caravan is accessible to all and will help reduce inequalities in access to quality care. “We would like through our diligent work to bring more happiness to the general Gabonese public. We will do our best to provide medical services on our ship’s medical platform. And in addition, we will bring medical detachments to local military and civilian hospitals to provide consultations and treatment.said the vice-admiral.

According to the Gabonese Ministry of Health, for this operation, patients already registered at the Owendo University Hospital Center (CHU) and the Sino-Gabonese Cooperation Hospital will be transported every day from 6 a.m., and depending on the programming to be scrupulously respected.
