Square Enix Demonstration
Square Enix demonstrated ‘Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake (hereinafter referred to as Dragon Quest 3 Remake)’ at its booth during the ‘Tokyo Game Show 2024 (TGS 2024)’.
Dragon Quest 3 Remake is ‘Dragon Quest 3 and To Legend…’ released on the Famicom in 1988. (hereinafter referred to as Dr. Quest 3) is a remake version. In particular, DeQue is so well-made that it has been ported several times to the Super Famicom, Game Boy Color, and mobile devices, and is evaluated as the ultimate JRPG, influencing not only games but also various media such as animation for decades.
In addition, this demo version was playable in two parts, from the very beginning of the game to the section where new content was provided. The beginning of the play is similar to the Super Famicom version. The main character is moved to where Rubys is and has a conversation, and the main character’s personality is determined based on this dialogue choice. After the setting is over, it is a typical king road story in which the protagonist wakes up in a room, talks to his mother, meets the king, and defeats the demon lord ‘Baramos’.
Since the protagonist is not strong in the beginning, he can recruit companions at Lewis’s tavern, and a feature that allows the companions to change their appearance and color has been added in this work. Also, the Magician job was added, but it was disappointing that I couldn’t use the Magician properly due to the short play time. And because a small voice was added, immersion increased even more.
In addition, when you gather your friends and go out into the field, there is a difference in elevation, so it feels like you are going on a real adventure, and there is a fun element of picking up items dropped on the field. The battle was staged so that the back of the player character was visible before selecting the menu. Of course, when you enter a battle, only enemy characters appear, like in previous works.
The new content ‘Battle Road’ is created with the motif of the game ‘Dragon Quest Battle Road’, and is a format in which you receive high rewards as you raise your rank by competing against monsters. It appears that the new profession, the Magician, will play the main role of collecting monsters to be used in the Battle Road.
Another additional content, ‘Dungeon Strategy’, is an element that aims to reach the top floor of the Champagne Tower. Although I haven’t enjoyed this for a long time, I think it will stimulate the player’s desire for a challenge as it has quite a few yarikomi elements.
Overall, this game has been developed over a long period of time, so the level of completion is excellent, and many features that users can easily enjoy these days, such as dash and auto save, have been added to enable comfortable play. The level of completion is as good as expected, so let’s look forward to the upcoming release date.
