Renowned artist Saifi Soomro, after seeing his paintings in the TV drama ‘Kabhi Mein Kabhi Tum’, took to social media on September 8 to allege that his artworks were used without permission.

In a post on social media website X, he wrote: ‘The paintings used in the play were exhibited at the Friar Hall in 2017, after which they were not returned.’

After this post by Safi Soomro, social media users and various news channels raised their voice in favor of the artist, to which the drama production company ‘Big Bang Entertainment’ said in a statement that the matter was not under the control of the production team and now He hopes that the concerned parties will resolve it together.’

To resolve the dispute, the Sindh Culture Department formed a two-member committee, which has submitted a detailed report after the investigation.

According to the committee’s report, ‘Safi Soomro’s paintings have not disappeared, but have been in the Friar Hall since 2017.’

The report said that ‘paintings are moved from one place to another due to various exhibitions and the paintings seen in the private channel drama are of Safi Soomro. There was a misunderstanding between the owner of the painting and the Friar Hall management. The artist had shown no interest in taking back his paintings.’

On the other hand, artist Safi Soomro has expressed his displeasure over the investigation in a video message on Facebook.

He said that the Sindh government included people from its own agency in the investigation team, when it should have included a third party.

“I have been treated unfairly in the decision made by the investigation committee of the Sindh Department of Culture. This decision has been made with bias, which I am not satisfied with.”

According to Safi Soomro: ‘Profits were made through my paintings. If my paintings were missing, they should have been stored in a warehouse and not exhibited in various places for profit.

‘It would have been unfair to many artists like me but I raised my voice which went far.’
