Saudi Arabia is almost certain to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup as Australia has confirmed it will not be bidding to host the world tournament.

Football Australia (FA) chief James Johnson said his country was “looking at the possibility” of hosting the World Cup in 2034. But on Tuesday, the domestic governing body said it would focus on hosting the Women’s Asian Cup 2026 and Club World Cup 2029 instead of hosting the World Cup.

Saudi Arabia has become the only confirmed bidder after Australia decided not to bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.

Minutes after FIFA called for bids from Asian and Oceanian countries on October 4, Saudi Arabia announced its bid.

The president of the Asian Football Confederation, which includes Australia, said the ‘whole Asian football family’ would unite in favor of Saudi Arabia’s bid.

FIFA has awarded the hosting of the World Cup 2030 to Morocco, Portugal and Spain, while on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the World Cup, it has also decided to hold special World Cup matches in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay.
