In 2021, a mixed-breed pit bull “Jianshi” in Hsinchu County was admitted to the Animal Protection and Epidemic Prevention Center for killing his owner’s friend who was teasing him while drunk. However, due to regulatory restrictions, pit bulls cannot be adopted by the public, and currently no pit bull owners are willing to adopt them. The animal welfare center has also tried to change his behavior through the guidance of trainers, but the progress has been limited. Therefore, “Jianshi”‘s current life mainly depends on the care of the animal welfare center.
In response to the problem of sheltering “Jianshi” and other ferocious dogs, the animal protection center is planning to renovate the kennels to improve their living space and safety. The new design will transform from an independent iron cage to a more spacious flat kennel. The space is expected to be expanded to about 3 square meters.
