Al-Sudani in New York discusses fate of kidnapped people and economic cooperation with Iraq

The two sides discussed the file of the kidnapped persons from its humanitarian aspects. Al-Sudani stressed that Iraq is still making efforts to uncover the fate of the kidnapped persons, in addition to full solidarity with their families and working with the governments of the countries of the region to exchange information about them and intensify the search and investigation for the remaining kidnapped Yazidi women.
For his part, Ambassador Karsiniz expressed his appreciation for Iraq’s efforts in the field of following up on cases of enforced disappearance and cooperating with the countries concerned in this field to uncover the fate of their citizens.

Al-Sudani also discussed, in a separate meeting with US Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo, economic relations between the two countries and practical measures implemented in the field of combating money laundering.
The statement said that the Iraqi Prime Minister confirmed to the American official that the Iraqi government has completed 95% of bank transfers through the electronic platform, and less than 5% remains to be completed by the end of this year, after which the transition to the correspondent banking system will take place.

According to the statement, the US Deputy Secretary of the Treasury confirmed Washington’s support for the reform program adopted by Al-Sudani’s government to improve the economic and banking situation in Iraq and combat illicit financing, praising the progress witnessed by Iraq in the field of economic and banking reforms and economic growth, which reached a total of about 6%.
