AThis weekend, the SKN Sabres St. Pölten will start the new season of the European Women’s Hockey League (EWHL) and the win2day Austrian Women’s Hockey League (AWHL) with two home games. The ice rink in the Lower Austria Sports Center has survived the flood and is already back in operation.
On Friday, the SKN Sabres will host the Kapfenberg team at 8:15 p.m. and on Sunday (5 p.m.) Budapest Academia will be the guests. The SKN Sabres are clear favorites in both games. This year, admission is five euros and is free for those under 18 (season ticket including retro Sabres dress costs 50 euros).
The preparation and the European Cup weekend went well. There was a defeat against the professional team from EV Zug (as reported by the NÖN), but according to Sabres general manager Christian Klepp, the 0:5 was clearly too high considering the course of the game. In the second game, the SKN Sabres were able to defeat the reigning EWHL champion Bratislava 2:1.
