In the press conference, Jannik Sinner reiterates what all fans of this sport know, “this is a special tournament for me”. On the eve of his debut as the reigning champion in the “China Open”, an ATP 500 tournament held on the hard courts of the Olympic Green Tennis Center in Beijing and the title he won last year, beating Alcaraz in the semifinals and Medvedev in the final, defeated for the first time in his career, Sinner is aware that everything started right from Beijing, a springboard to glory and the first step in the climb to the top of the world rankings.
Sinner debuts with the Chilean Nicolas Jarry, number 28 in the ATP ranking, who won the only precedent between the two players on the grass of ‘s-Hertogenbosch in 2019. Two other Italians will also be on the field. Flavio Cobolli, number 32 in the world, will meet for the first time the Kazakh Alexander Bublik, 26 in the international ranking and eighth seed in the seeding.
Lorenzo Sonego, number 50 in the world, will instead challenge the Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, 44 in the ATP ranking, beaten in the quarterfinals in Chengdu, last week, by Lorenzo Musetti. The two meet for the fifth time in their careers. The balance of the previous matches is tied (2-2): the Turin native won the first two challenges, the 36-year-old from Soisy-sous-Montmorency the last two, the most recent of which in the group of this year’s United Cup.

“I’m happy to be here, it’s a special tournament for me, Sinner begins, here a year ago I changed gear, starting to play very well and closing out a fantastic 2023. I’m looking for the right feeling in training but I’m ready to get on the court. This season has been fantastic, with many victories and many matches played. I’m happy in the position I’m in but the season isn’t over yet, there are still many important tournaments to play and I hope to get there ready. The ATP Finals are one of my goals, and then I’m already thinking about the Davis Cup. I’m happy but let’s try to improve also in the final part of the season”.
