Shipwreck in Samos: Investigations are in full progress

The investigations are carried out by sea and land, with the participation of Coast Guard patrol boats and vehicles, as well as passing ships. So far, 30 foreigners (24 men, 5 women and 1 child) have been rescued, while four bodies (3 women and 1 child) have been collected.

The operation began yesterday morning, when a citizen notified the Port Authority of Samos about the existence of people at sea. Immediately mobilized forces of the LS-EL.AKT., a helicopter of the Air Force and the Frontex force, as well as members of the Hellenic Rescue Team. Despite adverse weather conditions with 5-6 Beaufort winds, rescuers managed to locate and collect the victims and survivors.

During the operation, an additional 21 people were located in the land area near the bay of Agios Isidoros. A woman in advanced pregnancy was taken to the Karlovasos Health Center.

During the preliminary investigation process, a 21-year-old foreigner was arrested, identified as the smuggler of immigrants. The arrested person faces charges of illegal trafficking and transportation of people, which led to death, while his mobile phone was confiscated. Searches continue for any missing persons.
