Madeleine case: Pedophile Christian Bruckner on trial – How he reacted when he saw photos of the little girl

It was the first time images of the missing Madeline were shown in Bruckner’s ongoing trial for unrelated sex crimes. The German pedophile is suspected of abducting and murdering the three-year-old in Praia da Luz in May 2007. He is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence for raping an American pensioner in the Portuguese resort.

Bruckner is on trial in Germany for unrelated sex crimes allegedly committed in the Algarve. Madeleine had previously been mentioned only briefly in the trial, which has been ongoing since February.

Today, however, the images and photographs of the tragic genre were dramatically shown at the court in Braunschweig. They included the final snaps taken by Madeleine on her family’s fateful holiday in Praia da Luz.

The footage was from an episode of German counterpart Crimewatch, which aired in June 2020. It also included a re-enactment of the night Madeleine disappeared and an interview with her parents Kate and Gerry McCann, from Rothley, Leics.

Brueckner, wearing a light blue blazer, sat with his hand over his mouth and stared at the screen as it played out in court. Friedrich Fuelscher’s lawyer had requested that the episode be played to highlight inconsistencies in witness statements.

The judge, Ute Engemann, has previously tried to avoid any mention of Madeleine in the trial. Brueckner, 47, is accused of crimes in the Algarve between 2000 and 2017.
