A student leader in support of Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid was tortured to death on the campus of Jahangir Nagar University in Dhaka.
Shamim Ahmed belonged to the Awami League’s student wing and his killing was a result of his key role in attacks on protesters during the student movement in mid-July.
Police officer Abu Bakr told AFP that unknown persons brutally tortured Shamim Ahmed to death. The police officer said that the police rushed him to Gonu Shasthiya Hospital, but he could not survive.
Shamim Ahmed is the third student leader of Awami League to be killed by unknown persons this month. On September 8, Abdullah Al Masood was killed by an angry mob in the northern city of Rajshahi.
