Chairman Independent Disciplinary Panel Justice Retired Fazl Meeran Chauhan has submitted the detailed decision regarding Umar Akmal to the Pakistan Cricket Board according to which he will be eligible to participate in cricket activities again on February 19, 2023.

According to the decision, a 3-year ban has been imposed on Umar Akmal for violating both the charges included in the PCB Anti-Corruption Code and this ban will come into effect on February 20, 2020, i.e. the day of Umar Akmal’s suspension.

Umar Akmal was issued a Notice of Charge on March 17 for violating Article 2.4.4 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code in 2 separate incidents and both the terms of the sentence will run concurrently.

According to the decision, PCB had sent Umar Akmal’s case to the Chairman Disciplinary Panel on April 9. Chairman Independent Disciplinary Panel Justice Retired Fazal-Meeran Chauhan has given his remarks in the detailed decision and said that apparently Umar Akmal is neither remorseful nor ready to apologize for his mistake.

The chairman wrote that Umar Akmal had failed to fulfill his responsibilities and was trying to justify himself by informing about such contacts in the past.

The charges leveled against Umar Akmal for admitting failure to inform PCB’s vigilance and security department about the contacts without delay are proved.

Justice Retired Fazal Meeran Chauhan wrote that Umar Akmal presents himself as a convict for violating Article 2.4.4.

The PCB had charged Umar Akmal for violation under the Article of the Anti-Corruption Code and had given him till March 31, 2020 to submit a reply.

Punishment for conviction under Article 2.4.4 is ban from 6 months to life, Cricketer Umar Akmal was provisionally suspended on 20 February 2020.

It should be noted that in 2018, Umar Akmal made a statement regarding match fixing, after which he faced criticism.

In an interview, he admitted that he was offered to fix matches in the 2015 World Cup.
