Indonesia’s last hope at the 2024 China Open has disappeared after Indonesian men’s singles player, Jonatan Christie, lost to the host representative, Weng Hong Yang.

Jojo, Jonatan Christie’s nickname, had to swallow defeat in two straight games with a score of 17-21 and 18-21 at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium on Saturday (21/9).

“First of all, I would like to thank God for today’s results. It’s not optimal, but this is what has been given,” said Jojo in his statement, Saturday (21/9).

Jojo admitted that he did not know why the field conditions changed 180 degrees from before. He felt that there was no wind at all in the match. It made a slight change from the way of playing that was prepared.

“The adaptation is looking for more and several times we should have scored but instead we made mistakes. Small mistakes in a match like this can change the situation, maybe if we didn’t do that the story could be different,” he said.

Before Jonatan, Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja also suffered a defeat from the host mixed doubles, Feng Yan Zhe/Huang Dong Ping with a score of 16-21 and 15-21.

Then, the men’s doubles Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin had to accept defeat from Malaysian representatives, Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin with a final score of 14-21 and 22-24. (PBSI/Z-6)
