Celine Dion, the return of the fashionista!

I haven’t always appreciated Celine Dion’s fashion choices. Far from it.

But when I saw her L’Oréal video on Monday, seeing her in those bold and stunning yellow dresses and coats, I thought three things: 1) What a hottie, she’s never looked better! 2) Wow, she’s really dressed with taste and class! 3) Céline exudes such confidence, looking into the camera with aplomb, that I wouldn’t be surprised if she announces a big comeback soon.

You’re worth it!

We remember that over the years, Céline has gone through a whole range of styles. Not always happy ones.

In 2017, I got tomatoes thrown at me for daring to think (and write) that I didn’t like her Versace dress at the Met Gala. I also remember when she looked like she’d made clothes out of my grandmother’s curtains. Or when she dressed all in green, like a pixie.

But since her appearance on the Eiffel Tower during the Olympic Games in Paris, Celine Dion seems to have reconciled herself with class, elegance and finesse.

On a trip to Paris this summer, I went to the Galerie Dior on Rue François 1er in the 8th arrondissement. The great fashion house proudly displayed, among the original models created by Monsieur Christian Dior, the outfits designed especially by Maria Grazia Chiuri for the Games. There was Lady Gaga’s frilly pink dress. The blue-white-and-red dress of the opera singer who sang The Marseillaise. And finally, there was the splendid dress embroidered with light that Celine had worn to sing theHymn to love.

There were hundreds of visitors gathered in front of this marvel.

It was a magical dress, perfect for the occasion, filled with sequins and fringes that moved with every movement of the star’s arms.

For me, fashion is an art in the same way as painting, music or literature. And the greatest fashion designers are artists in their own right.

Never out of fashion

I’ll tell you a little anecdote. I interviewed Celine Dion seven times for the magazine 7 Days.

During one of my stays in Las Vegas, Mr. Angélil confided in me that he was distraught because Céline’s birthday was fast approaching and he didn’t know what to give her because: “She has everything!”

On the plane home, I read in a fashion magazine that a major fashion house would soon be releasing an exclusive handbag in an extremely limited edition. As soon as my plane landed in Montreal, I left a message on Mr. Angélil’s voicemail to tell him the news. A few weeks later, the famous impresario called me back to thank me, telling me that Céline was delighted with her gift and had even asked him: “How did you know that I was dreaming of this handbag?”

Celine has always been a fashionista. But she has never been so classy.
