Jordan nominated the feature-length documentary Hello My Land by director Sarine Herabedian for competition Oscars The 97th Best International Film Award, the most prestigious award in the world cinema.
“The film was selected by a completely independent committee of six members, including Jordanian experts and professionals in the audiovisual field,” Jordan’s Royal Film Commission said in a statement today (Wednesday).

“Helwa, My Land” was produced by Jordanian Azza Hourani with a development grant from the Jordan Film Fund. It is the first feature film from the director, whose previous documentary “We Are Not Over Yet” won several awards.
Helwa, My Land tells the story of Freej, an 11-year-old boy who dreams of becoming a dentist in his village, but is forced to flee with his family when conflict breaks out around him. When he returns, he finds nothing but his destroyed home.
“We are going through difficult times and the need to amplify the voices of those suffering has become more urgent than ever,” the film director wrote in English on her Facebook page.
She added: “We are honored to be selected and grateful to the amazing team who have always believed in the importance of telling Freej’s story.”
Expected to be announced American College The Ministry of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will announce a preliminary list of films competing for the Best International Film Award in December, with the shortlist to be announced in January 2025.
