An insurmountable grief, the announcement of an illness… In response to a reality that is too difficult to accept or in the face of a shock, denial is a mechanism that can allow, unconsciously, to cushion the trauma. It is about not integrating a part of reality in order to avoid too great an emotional shock.

How and why does denial arise? Is it necessary to try to get out of it or can it play a saving role?
