A married father, Loïc Résibois died of Charcot’s disease on September 24. In six months, he had become totally dependent. “I am tired of this existence,” he confided, while he continued to campaign for the legalization of assisted suicide.
Loïc Résibois died on Tuesday, September 24, at just 47 years old. He suffered from Charcot’s disease, an incurable pathology that in two years had paralyzed all his muscles. “I am tired of this existence”he confided to us from his armchair with the help of a voice amplifier. “I don’t want to push my life past the breaking point”added Loïc, who campaigned for active assistance in dying.
Totally dependent, he could no longer do without his respirator. “If we don’t live in this confinement, it’s not even imaginable”he stressed. In six months, the disease progressed very quickly. We met him at his home in Amiens last February and March. He was actively campaigning on social media to legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia for people with incurable diseases.
Since our filming, five days ago, his health had deteriorated significantly. He had asked to benefit from sedation, with the hope that soon, terminally ill patients would be able to choose their end of life.
