Today (25th), CBS Radio’s “Kim Hyun Joong’s News Show” aired a phone interview with Seoul news reporter Jang Hyung Woo, who claimed that Hive’s PR representative made disparaging remarks about New Genes.
Reporter Zhang said that he is not an entertainment reporter, but an industry reporter covering shipbuilding and aviation. “On July 17, I wrote an article about New Jeans’ Tokyo Dome performance, its performance in Japan, and Hive’s stock price, but after the article was published, a Hive PR representative corrected the news. “I received a request,” he said. Reporter Zhang claimed, “We must accept the correction of the facts, but we distorted and belittled New Genes’ performance and told stories that did not conform to common sense.”
He went on to explain, “After watching the New Genes members’ livestream, I couldn’t help but think that this was unfair treatment by (Hive). So, I wanted to raise awareness about the specific case, so I reported it.”
Reporter Jang released a recording of a phone call he had with a Hive PR representative after the report was published on July 17. In the recording, the person in charge said, “Because New Jeans is our artist, it is right to promote New Jeans’ success regardless of the controversy with Representative Min Hee-jin,” but also said, “Sales are not high in Japan, so it’s not as good as expected, so we need to correct this, “I do this,” he emphasized.
Reporter Zhang said, “I have met with the PR manager countless times due to the nature of my job, but this is the first time that the PR manager said that the artist of the subsidiary company ‘did not do well’ or ‘was not that good. Just as I thought.'”
Reporter Jang also asked, “During the conference call at the time, I don’t understand how CEO Min Hee-jin, who holds less than 20% of the shares, could usurp management rights,” the official said, insisting that Min Hee-jin, former CEO of New Jeans Adore.
The head mentioned the story that former CEO Min Hee-jin’s application for a preliminary injunction was accepted, and said, “I think that’s what happened on this floor. “Only the artist (New Jeans) will be affected psychologically, and the insider (former CEO Min Hee-jin) can go dark and try to take over the company, and he may win the preliminary injunction,” he said.
Meanwhile, Hive said on Kim Hyun Jung’s News Show, “We are doing our best to promote Adore. We are also working hard to promote the New Genes album.”
