Algeria.. Major consultation to achieve non-hydrocarbon exports of $30 billion

$30 billion is the number announced in President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s program, which is intended to be achieved within 5 years, i.e. before 2030. The proposals include unprecedented export facilities, removing all obstacles to the process, granting incentives to exporters, activating economic diplomacy to promote Algerian products abroad, and preventing the blockade facing local products by some parties.

The Ministry of Commerce stated that it had sent a letter to economic actors in which it announced that it had launched a written referendum to find out the opinions of economic operators on how to promote and upgrade Algerian exports during the period between 2024 and 2030, where they were informed of the need to present their vision on how to achieve non-hydrocarbon exports of nearly $30 billion.

The proposals of economic operators and associations active in the field of export include granting greater facilities to exporters during the next phase to enable them to enter new foreign markets, led by providing means of transportation and an air and sea fleet to deliver Algerian goods to the markets that request them abroad, while offering competitive and incentive prices to exporters for plane and ship tickets, in addition to not classifying export violations as a financial crime at the level of banks and processing exporters’ files in the event of any error being recorded on a case-by-case basis.

Exporters are waiting for the expansion of the Algerian banking network abroad. After the inauguration of the Algerian Bank in Nouakchott, Mauritania, and another bank in Dakar, Senegal, the inauguration of the Algerian Bank in France, affiliated with the Algerian Foreign Bank, is expected before the end of this year, with the programming of the inauguration of new bank branches in a number of European and African countries, such as an Algerian bank in Côte d’Ivoire.

Exporters call for activating and stimulating Algerian economic diplomacy in Algerian embassies and consulates abroad, which should include promoting Algerian products abroad and searching for new markets to attract more hard currency.

Exporters also call for speeding up the implementation of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s instructions during the ceremony honoring the best exporter for the year 2024, when he allowed the opening of branches for after-sales services for Algerian products abroad, a point that is expected to contribute to pumping more than $600 million annually in export revenues outside of hydrocarbons.
