The average age of those who have taken out a mortgage in Sicily is 40 years. A complete survey of the mortgage sector must also take into consideration the socio-demographic profile of those who take out loans. Kìron Partner SpA, Tecnocasa group, analyzes the subjects to understand the characteristics of those who operate on the market in an increasingly multifaceted economic context. The survey, referring to the year 2023, examines parameters such as area of ​​origin, location where the agreement took place, age and profession of those who have taken out a mortgage loan through the Kìron and Epicas brand agencies.

Area of ​​origin

In Sicily, the financing is mainly for Italian citizens, in fact 96.5% of the mortgages were granted to people of Italian origin, but the percentages of foreigners are increasing: currently almost 2.1% are European citizens and 1.4% are non-European immigrants. The most represented nationalities are Romanian, Albanian and Moldovan, while the majority of non-Europeans come from Asia, followed very closely by Latin Americans and Africans.

Chronological age

The average age of those who took out a mortgage in Sicily in 2023 is 40 years. The analysis by age group shows that 35.4% of the population falls into the lowest group, 18 – 34 years; 34.0% are between 35 and 44 years; 20.5% fall into the 45 – 54 age group; 8.5% are in the 55 – 64 age group; 1.7% fall into the highest group, 65 and over.

Profession

From the analysis of the profession of the borrower, it emerges that economic security is among the fundamental elements required by credit institutions to provide financing. This characteristic identifies 85.6% of the sample (permanent employees and pensioners), compared to 9.2% of those with a flexible work contract (freelance professionals/self-employed workers and business owners) and 2.9% of fixed-term workers.
