Two months after the release of the first DLC, the official video game of WEC and the 24 Hours of Le Mans returns with more paid content coming on September 24. They are getting closer to having the complete grid in Le Mans Ultimate, as they have added the Alpine A424 and the Isotta Fraschini Type 6 LMH-C, along with a new layout, the Circuit of the Americas in Austin.
On Motorsport.com, we tested the game using one of the highest-performing PCs available, along with a Fanatec steering wheel and pedals. For transparency, it’s important to note that our editorial team maintains complete freedom of judgment as we have not been part of the same group as Motorsport Games since 2023.
What is the new content?
This second DLC follows the same format as the previous one, featuring two cars and one track. Now, the American track is featured, which is quite well-known, along with the Isotta Fraschini Type 6 LMH-C, which sadly exited the championship, and the Alpine A424. The price is set at 11.99 euros, although there is also a Season Pass available for 46.99 euros.
The Season Pass includes all four planned DLCs from Studio 397, with two more expected: one at the end of the year featuring the first LMGT3, and a final one at the beginning of 2025.
A different Texas
The WEC’s grand return to Austin offers the developers of Le Mans Ultimate the chance to provide a circuit that is indeed quite distinct from existing simulations. Once again, the execution meets expectations and is notably perfect, aided by the precision of the laser scanning, while the driving experience feels livelier than ever, thanks to the track’s contours, potholes, and overall character.
The sequence of curves in the first sector is simply remarkable, providing an incredible sensation of speed behind the wheel of a Hypercar, while offering a new perspective for those who only know the track through Formula 1 and MotoGP. All this occurs against a backdrop of graphics that remain as demanding as ever, with rendering that emits natural realism.
The stunning blue and the little Italian
Following the arrival of the Lamborghini SC63 LMDh and the Peugeot 9X8 in July, it’s now the turn of the Alpine A424 and the Isotta Fraschini Tipo 6 LMH-C. There is no doubt that the popularity and aesthetic charm of the French car will make it a fan favorite. To reiterate, the modeling is as meticulous as it is practical, both visually and aurally, and the sensations linked to Force Feedback attest to a certain level of excellence.
However, appearances can be deceiving; we appreciated the Italian car for its unique character. Its enjoyable sound, coupled with its somewhat unpredictable behavior, presents a challenge that feels very real, prompting us to continue playing lap after lap in an effort to improve our times.
Preferences will vary, but it’s safe to say that these two new vehicles maintain the high standards set by their predecessors, with no surprises but a confirmation that they offer content that meets expectations.
A new gaming experience
Le Mans Ultimate, still in its teenage years and far from maturity, continues to evolve with the introduction of this second DLC. Based on a survey conducted with players during the summer, the developers expedited the integration of new features. Two eagerly awaited features have been promised, including the ability to save an event for later resumption and the introduction of a cooperative mode.
The true test of this will be how frequently it is played online and the feedback from the engaged users. Although the game won over many on paper, with a number of robust features at launch and enjoyable gameplay, it struggled to gain traction within the online community, recording concerning figures in recent months.
