BW coach Scheiblehner’s contract expires: “Nobody has spoken to me yet”

FC Blau-Weiß Linz is riding the wave of success in the current Bundesliga season – and yet the future of coach Gerald Scheiblehner is uncertain.

The 47-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season – there have been no talks about an early extension, as Scheiblehner revealed in the Sky podcast “DAB I The Audio Proof”: “Nobody has spoken to me yet. I can’t say that I don’t care, I’ll be honest. When you’re a coach and you’re going into your last year, it’s a bit uncomfortable. I also have a family, three children, a house and certain payments to make. It’s not a huge problem because that’s part of the job of a coach. But it would be more pleasant if it were different.”

Nevertheless, the BW coach can still take the unclear contract situation with humor: “I already told Christoph Peschek: If we continue to be so successful, it will be expensive for him. If we lose more often again, maybe it will be a bit cheaper again. But Christoph himself does not have a contract for the coming season yet.”

But the blue-and-white club giants shouldn’t take too long: With his current run of success, Scheiblehner is also putting himself in the spotlight. Austria Vienna was already very interested in him in the summer – there were also rumors that he could be on a possible list as Christian Ilzer’s successor at Sturm Graz. The Styrian team is also the next opponent of Blue-White: On Saturday, Austria’s double winner will be visiting the Hofmann Personal Stadium.
