Google is optimizing several apps for tablets and foldables following the launch of the Pixel Tablet and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. After releasing desktop mode for tablets in Android 15 QPR1 Beta 2, Google is preparing a visual change for the interface of Files, its file manager.
The new Files by Google interface was discovered by Android Authority in collaboration with user Assemble Debug while investigating lines of code in version 1.4831.672243909.0 beta released on the Play Store.
Above we can see a comparison between the old and new look of Files on a tablet, where the new version has two columns: one with the search bar, recent files and categories, while the other with the list of folders in the device’s internal storage.
