The sources added to Al Borsa newspaper that the value of the contract to manufacture the 500 carriages is estimated at around 600 million euros, as the cost of one carriage is 1.2 million euros, and the contract includes maintenance work and spare parts for a period of 15 years, as part of a deal to manufacture a thousand carriages for the Railway Authority.
She explained that the Egyptian Ministry of Transport will pay the value of the deal in Egyptian pounds, and “Nirk” will be asked to arrange the necessary financing for the imported part of the manufacturing process with the winning company.
She pointed out that the contracts are still in the Contracting Department of the Railway Authority to put the final touches and set a date for signing the final contract between the winning company, the Railway Authority and the Egyptian National Railway Industries Company (NERC), especially since there will be cooperation between the three parties in the coming years.
The sources added that the manufacturing of the 500 railway cars is scheduled to begin at the NERC factory during the first quarter of next year.
It is noteworthy that the NERC factory operates in 3 phases on an area of 300 thousand square meters. The first phase includes a factory for manufacturing railway and metro cars, the second phase for manufacturing moving units for the monorail and high-speed train, and the third phase for rehabilitating metro and railway cars.
She pointed out that it was agreed that the winning company would increase the percentage of local components in the deal to 70%.
The company had supplied 1,350 train cars to the Egyptian Railways in recent years, at a value of 1 billion, 16 million and 50 thousand euros.
