Body of blasphemy suspect killed in police encounter snatched and set on fire – Pakistan

In Umarkot city of Sindh, angry people snatched the body of a blasphemy accused killed in an alleged encounter with the police and set it on fire.

According to media reports, a case of blasphemy was registered against Dr. Shahnawaz Kandanar on September 17 and the news of his death in an alleged police encounter on the night of September 18 and 19 came to light.

A close relative of Dr. Shahnawaz said that when Shahnawaz’s father arrived with the body in an ambulance at four in the morning, angry people stopped the ambulance from coming to the village, after which they put the body in a car and drove it 40 km from Umarkot. He was taken to a small town in the distance to be buried, but there was a large number of people there, after which he brought the body to his land in the desert area and tried to bury it.

He said that in the meantime angry people came and people snatched the body and set it on fire due to which 50% of it was burnt.

According to a relative of Dr. Shahnawaz, the police came very late after the angry mob set the body on fire and only after the arrival of the police, his family members gathered and the cremation took place.

A four-member team was formed to investigate the death of Dr. Shah Nawaz Kanbhar in an alleged encounter by the Sindhi police in Mirpurkhas.

Top police officials have ordered the investigation team to submit a report within seven days. A final decision on further steps will be taken in the light of the investigation report.

An important change is that SSP Mirpur Khas Asad Ali Chaudhry has been transferred and given the charge of SSP Mirpur Khas to Shabir Ahmad Sithar.

Sindh Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Linjar has directed an investigation into the incident.

The case of Dr. Shahnawaz’s death is still not clear. SSP Mirpur Khas Asad Chaudhry claimed that Dr. Shahnawaz was killed during the exchange of fire at Sindhri’s location. He further said that Shahnawaz Khandinar started firing on seeing the police, but in the meantime he was killed by his partner’s bullet.

On the other hand, a close relative of Shahnawaz denied the police’s position and said that Shahnawaz’s father was in police custody and his release was subject to his son’s arrest, so the family members voluntarily sent Dr. Shahnawaz to Karachi. handed over to the police and said that security is now the responsibility of the police, but still Shahnawaz was killed in a fake encounter.
