With 19 different winners this season, Team UAE Emirates has equalled a 24-year-old record. And the season is not over yet…

In 2000, the leading team in the international peloton was Mapei-QuickStep. In 2024, it’s UAE Emirates! The Emirati outfit equaled the 24-year-old record of the Italian team (which at the time had Oscar Freire, Tom Steels, Paolo Bettini and Johan Museeuw in its ranks) on Saturday thanks to Filippo Baroncini, who became the team’s 19th rider to win a race, in this case the Classic Super 8 in Belgium. This season, UAE Emirates have notched up 75 victories, 22 of which have been won by their megastar, Tadej Pogacar. But the Slovenian is not the only one to have made the white, red, black and green jersey shine. Issac Del Toro had started the season with a bang by winning on January 17 in Australia (the Mexican won two more victories later). The Swiss Marc Hirschi raised his arms eight times (including seven between the end of July and mid-September!), the American Brandon McNulty seven times, the Briton Adam Yates six times, the Spaniard Juan Ayuso four times, the New Zealander Finn Fisher-Back, the Italian Diego Ulissi, the Portuguese Antonio Morgado, the Belgian Tim Wellens and the Swiss Jan Christen three times, the Portuguese Joao Almeida twice and the German Nils Politt, the Slovenian Domen Novak, the Australian Jay Vine, the Spaniard Marc Soler and the Austrian Felix Grosschartner once. The only Frenchman in the squad, Pavel Sivakov, also contributed to this historic season, winning a stage of the Tour of Abruzzo. UAE Emirates also won the Paris-Nice team time trial.

Many victories, none of them in sprints!

You have to go back to 2009, and Columbia-HTC, to see a team sign a 75-win season. At the time, the American team had 85 victories, but it had sprinters Mark Cavendish and Andre Greipel in its ranks, which is not the case for UAE Emirates, which makes his performance even more impressive. The 2024 season is not over yet, and eleven riders from the Emirati team have not yet won, like Rafal Majka, Juan Sebastian Molano or Rui Oliveira…
