After a match lacking in chances, Anderlecht and Charleroi drew 0-0 on Saturday at Lotto Park, on the occasion of the 8th day of the Jupiler Pro League. The Mauves, who were playing their first match under the orders of interim manager David Hubert, are on a fourth match without a win.
The two teams remain neck and neck in the standings: the Zebras are 4th with 13 points, the same total as Anderlecht, 5th. Antwerp (2nd) and Club Bruges (3) also have 13 points, three less than the leader Genk.
The first minutes of the match were marked by Colin Coosemans’ fine reflex on a shot from Daan Heymans (3rd). The rest of the first half was balanced, but without any big chances. For Anderlecht, the first good situation came from Kilian Sardella, who tried from afar with his left foot without managing to deceive Mohamed Koné (40th).
The Charleroi goalkeeper distinguished himself again in the second half by deflecting a header from Leander Dendoncker (56th). Yari Verschaeren (66th) for Anderlecht and Alexis Flips (78th) for Charleroi each tried their luck from outside the area but both lacked precision. Alone in front of an empty goal, Nilson Angulo missed Anderlecht’s match ball in added time (90th + 1). For Charleroi, Isaac Mbenza led a solo counterattack but his shot was pushed back by Coosemans (90th + 2).
Hubert was the club’s U18 coach and took over from Brian Riemer who was dismissed by the management on Thursday, two days after the league defeat against Genk (0-2).
The 8th day ends on Sunday with four matches: Club Bruges-La Gantoise (1:30 p.m.), Mechelen-Cercle Bruges (4:00 p.m.), Genk-Dender (6:30 p.m.) and OHL-Kortrijk (7:15 p.m.).
