New tools are put into use: – Uncertainty for the surrounding residents

The bans have been extended every 14 days.

This is where the rock club Hells Angels is based, and the bans have been extended every 14 days – but now Aalborg Municipality is trumping up with a so-called assembly ban:

– An assembly place ban gives the municipal council the opportunity to prohibit certain groups from gathering on a property or its associated areas, such as a car park. The ban can be issued if the group’s presence creates significant inconvenience or insecurity for the surrounding residents. The set of rules is managed by us at By og Land, and since the law came into force in 2017, we have been aware of whether a situation could arise where we could put the tool into use, says councilor at By og Land Jan Nymark Rose Thaysen (V) in a press release.

Mayor Lasse Frimand Jensen (S), who elaborates:
– It is our clear opinion that the property is used as a gathering place for the rock club Hells Angels. We base this partly on the physical appearance of the property with the sign “Angels Place”, partly on information from the North Jutland Police. The property is located in a more densely built-up area in central Nørresundby with, among other things, private residences in the immediate vicinity. In addition, Østergade is a primary main access road to Nørresundby and Aalborg Midtby, used by drivers, cyclists and pedestrians alike. Therefore, based on the ongoing gang conflict in Denmark, it is our assessment that a ban on gathering at the address will contribute to creating security for the residents in the area.

Party hearing

After the Planning Complaints Board in June 2024 gave Odense Municipality permission to close the Hells Angels clubhouse in Odense, Aalborg Municipality has worked to have the Hells Angels clubhouse in Nørresundby closed. Before the meeting place ban came into force, the intended ban on using the property as a meeting place for Hells Angles has been in consultation with the owner of the property. No comments were received during the consultation period.

The assembly ban came into force on 23 September 2024, and it is valid for three months.

Violent conflict

As Nordjyske wrote the other day, the police’s repeated closures of Hells Angels clubhouses in Denmark are due to the violent conflict between gangs and rockers in the Copenhagen area.

The police assessed that there was an imminent risk that the clubhouses could be hit by attacks from the rival groups.

However, the police closures of the clubhouses do not prevent Hells Angels members from gathering for club activities – as long as they do not take place in the clubhouse itself.
