The Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah claimed five new attacks on military positions in northern Israel on Sunday night after an intense day of violence in which the armed group launched some 150 projectiles against the Israeli district of Haifa, 60 kilometers from the border with Lebanon.

In a series of statements, the group said it had fired shells at the military posts of Al Bagdadi, Mayan Baruch and radar systems in the disputed Chebaa Farms, all of which are close to the dividing line and where the exchange of fire has been concentrated since October 8.

The other two attacks targeted an Israeli Merkava tank in Al Marj, which was attacked by a guided missile that Hezbollah said “directly hit” it, and a group of soldiers at the Yal al Alam site, against whom artillery was used.

The armed group claimed responsibility for nine attacks on Sunday, including three large-scale attacks that targeted a base, a military airport and a weapons factory in the Haifa district, actions that the Israeli army said caused material damage and injuries.

Hezbollah said the large-scale attacks were part of its “initial response to the brutal Israeli massacre in several regions of Lebanon on Tuesday and Wednesday” last week, when communications devices in the hands of Hezbollah members exploded in a series of explosions.

The explosions, attributed to Israel, affected thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies, and left at least 37 people dead and around 3,000 injured in different parts of Lebanon.

An Israeli airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs known as Dayhe killed at least 45 people on Friday, including more than a dozen senior Hezbollah officials, raising tensions to unprecedented levels since the start of the exchange of fire with Israel in the Gaza Strip war.
