Mansoor Rahi’s 1 billion paintings stolen: Wife blames son

‘After dinner he took us straight to the upper rooms. I heard some noises from the basement, which the son called my illusion and put a cloth on the screens of the cameras.’

According to the text of the FIR filed on September 19 in Shalimar police station, Islamabad, Mansoor Ahmed went downstairs and saw that his son’s friends had taken out 70 to 80 paintings of his from the frames and put them in seven or eight rolls. What was folded in the case, which they kept in the car.

However, the wife could not explain the proper reason for the theft incident and the delay of eight months in filing the case. According to him, the FIR was delayed due to the shock caused by the incident.

According to the FIR, the value of the paintings is close to one billion rupees, while despite repeated explanations, his son did not stop and finally on May 12, Mansoor Ahmad Rahi died.

Who was Mansoor Rahi?

Born on January 1, 1939 in Calcutta, Mansoor Ahmad Rahi is known as one of the famous painters of Pakistan. He studied at the Arts College in Dhaka and then established the Karachi School of Arts in the 1960s to teach fine arts.

He came to Islamabad in 1980. He was married to the famous painter Hajra Mansoor, who was also one of the founders of this college.

Mansoor Rahi is heavily influenced by Picasso’s style of painting and completes his painting in one stroke. He is considered to be the creator of the unique style of Cubism in painting and this was his specialty.

Mansoor Rahi was also awarded the Presidential Medal for Excellence in 2007 by the government.

Mansoor Rahi had the privilege of being mentored by two eminent art teachers, Muhammad Kibaria, a renowned artist, and Abdul Razzaq. Mansoor paints with the same passion he did when he emerged on the then West Pakistan art scene in the late 1960s.
