The JetBlue plane had departed from John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, but at around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, it had to divert after having begun its journey to Salina Regional Airport in Kansas.
According to a representative for the Salina Airport Authority, speaking to KSNW, the plane was landed due to smoke in the cabin, adding that the pilot detected a smoke alert in the cargo hangar, while travelers reported hearing a loud noise shortly beforehand.

According to Salina Fire Battalion Chief Derrick Herzog, firefighters responded to the airfield at 6:20 p.m., about 10 minutes before the flight was set to land. The pilot said that as they were proceeding, some steam entered the plane through the vents, causing uncertainty for passengers.
Fortunately, all 130 passengers and crew members on the flight were safely disembarked, while the travelers remained waiting for a new plane to continue to San Diego.

For its part, JetBlue responded to passengers via social media to resolve their concerns, as they stressed that since it is not an airport where they provide service, flight plans could take a little longer to resume.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a statement on the incident, noting that it will launch an investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the incident and asking those concerned to contact the airline for more information.
