“Fragile” in Key States –

The US elections have begun: voters in Virginia, Minnesota and South Dakota can cast their ballots and everything that happens can have an immediate impact on the results. But which side do citizens lean on? Most of them believe that Vice President and Democratic Party candidate for the presidency of the United States, Kamala Harris, won her first and only debate with Republican opponent Donald Trump, on September 10, but that this victory did not significantly affect the polls ahead of the presidential elections on November 5. This is according to Politico, according to which the two duelists are expected to be neck and neck.

The newspaper credits Harris with exceeding expectations during her first head-to-head with Trump, so much so that according to a poll by the New York Times and Siena College, 2 out of 3 likely voters believe the vice president has prevailed in the face-off against her Republican opponent. However, approval polls ahead of the election do not show significant changes in approval ratings: Harris’ approval has increased by no more than one percentage point over the last two weeks, and two national polls released yesterday by NBC News and CBS News give the Democratic candidate just a half-point advantage over Trump at the national level.

Politico also reports the results of the three main national polling aggregators, which give Harris a lead of between 2.2 and 3 percentage points, less than a percentage point more than on September 10. The Democratic candidate’s advantage – the newspaper points out – appears even more fragile in the key states on which the outcome of the election will concretely depend, as shown by a series of recent polls: to date, the surveys give Harris a lead of more than a percentage point over Trump in just two key states: Michigan and Wisconsin. In five other states the gap between the two candidates is less than a percentage point, with Trump slightly ahead in Arizona, North Carolina and Georgia, and Harris leading in Pennsylvania and Nevada.
