Chua, who most recently led the men’s and women’s singles selections for the Malaysian national team, succeeded in the selection process announced after the end of his collaboration with Martínez. Thirteen candidates applied for it.
“The timing could not have been worse, as practically all coaches have signed contracts for new seasons during this period. Most (candidates) were young Indonesian coaches without much experience. I was surprised that none of the Czech coaches showed interest and that only four offers came from Europe,” said ČBaS chairman Petr Martinec.
“We are happy that a coach with experience and reputation from the Malaysian national team will lead our representation and training at the national center. We believe that he will introduce new elements into the game of our players and move their game level one step higher,” added Václav Drašnar, chairman of the coaching and methodical commission.
The current coach Martínez left at his own request, and the final preparation for the Paris Games was led by assistant Tomáš Skála. Jan Louda, Tereza Švábíková and doubles players Adam Mendrek and Ondřej Král started under five rings.
