The head of the UK Defence Department, John Healey, is calling on computer game enthusiasts and programmers to enlist in the country’s Armed Forces. He made his statement at the Labour Party congress, TASS reports.
Healy presented a programme to improve the recruitment process for civilians into the British Army.
“If you are one of the best gamers or code developers, the country needs you,” the minister said.
The program provides for simplified recruitment into military service: from the moment of application, a response from the defense department must be given within ten days, and training for service must begin within a month. In this way, the British authorities intend to simplify entry into the army, abandoning the bureaucratic obstacles that previously existed.
“Over the past 10 years, more than one million Britons have applied to join the armed forces, with three out of every four people opting out because the process takes months and is riddled with bureaucracy,” Healy said.
Earlier, the British authorities announced their intention to reduce spending on financing the defense department due to the “black hole” in the budget inherited from the previous Conservative government. There was also talk of a significant reduction in funding for the country’s national projects.
