Heavy rainfall in Tinghir province on Friday, September 20, caused roads to be blocked in a number of rural communities in the province.

According to local sources, this morning, torrents and floods caused the closure of regional road No. 704 between Boumalne and Amsemrir, at the level of Ait Oudinar and Ait Ydir in Ait Sedrate Jebel Al-Sufla.

The same sources explained that these floods caused a person to be trapped in a critical condition on board an ambulance coming from Oussemrir.

This comes at a time when the central and southeastern regions of the Kingdom of Morocco witnessed heavy rains and thunderstorms as a result of the arrival of tropical clouds coming from the African equatorial regions.

Among the cities that recorded significant rainfall were Ouarzazate and Zagora, which was predicted by the General Directorate of Meteorology in previous bulletins.

The Directorate stated in a warning bulletin at a “red” alert level that the affected regions include Smara, Assa-Zag, Tata, Zagora, Ouarzazate, Tinghir and Errachidia, where strong thunderstorms are expected to occur ranging between 50 and 80 mm, accompanied by hail and strong winds, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

In parallel, the Directorate issued an “orange” alert warning bulletin for other regions such as Taroudant, Azilal, Midelt and Figuig, which it said would witness thunderstorms ranging between 20 and 50 mm, with the possibility of hail and strong winds during the same period of time.
